RE: Poop Solution
Wow, now that is amazing!!?? It gets me to thinking of how that would work in this country...Plaintiff turns over poop of Defendant to "authorities". Analysis shows it to be Defendant's dog poop. However, Defendant appeals the case stating he/she did, in fact, pick up the poop and dispose of it in the garbage can. Defendant further argues that the evidence was "planted" by Plaintiff in retaliation for Defendant complaining to office about Plaintiff's dog barking excessively. Defendant produces witnesses who claim they saw Plaintiff take Defendant's poop bag from garbage. Plaintiff denies allegations of Defendant and calls his/her own witnesses who claim seeing dog in question pooping and Defendant failing to clean it up. Defendant then calls in additional witnesses who testify that Plaintiff's witnesses are his relatives and not credible. And further these so called witnesses were seen by other campground witnesses fishing and drinking beer at the time of the alleged incident....... Plaintiff decides to sue for defamation of character and loss of wages for pain and suffering.... Defendant counter sues for same..... Maybe a TV series could be created out of this. Oh, don't let me get started, I could really have some fun with this one. Judith
RE: Hate those annoying telemarketer phone calls?
this is funnyfuuny
Is this for real? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard!!! I love it. Also, a few quotes from the Good Book never hurt anyone. Maybe, we can turn this telemarketer thing into a new pasttime!?? Save a Soul or at leasat get a good laugh. Judith
RE: Hate those annoying telemarketer phone calls?
We used to get way more calls than we do now, but still get quite a few. So, I've also decided to have a little fun. If I don't recognize the number, I answer in my most soothing voice, "Acme Funeral Home, how may I help you?" It works great. If they persist, then I tell them about this month's special on caskets. One guy kept it up so I added the, two for the price of one special. By this time the fellow was totally off guard and laughing. He said that was the best one he's had.... So, whatever works. Richard thinks I'm crazy, but I have fun with it. Judith
RE: Car Sales
A friend of mine just told me that Volkswagen sales are up 18% from last year. He said it was released by Volkswagen Corporate recently. I wonder if this is so???
Who knows about Racing Pigeons?
The bird had been hanging around the high-rise condo where Richard works for about three days--didn't fly away and was in real danger of being killed by residents' cars and/or feral cats. Also looked too thin. The pigeon was so unafraid, he/she came into the shop every day to "visit". Soooooo, Richard brought the pigeon home. A band on the bird's leg says AU 2008. I found out on the internet that AU stands for American Racing Piegon Association and probably 2008 is the hatch date for the pigeon. The band on the other leg probably had specific identification on it, but is not readable. We checked with the local Wildlife Rescue and they suggested that we keep the bird rather than turn it in to them.
So, we got a nice cage for the pigeon and named him Rudy. He's gained some weight and is so beautiful and healthy. We let him out of the cage to fly around the Florida room (screened patio). I've looked on the internet and learned a few things about racing (hominmg) pigeons, but still don't know much. Anyone out there have experience with these birds.
RE: My little Papillon Lucy "fer" is a thief
You guys are too funny. I hope Lucy's little problem won't turn into a "media circus" after the America's Most Wanted appearance!!! I'm liking the thinking here, Frank. Maybe there is some government grant money to help Lucy overcome her obsession. Sounds like others have animals with some issues like Lucy. What about a TV show, sort of like Dogs with Jobs. Only this one would be about Klepto Dogs????
Her problem is bigger than I first thought. Since I discovered what a thief Lucy really is, I started checking around the house. Turns out she has several "stashes": under the bed--grandma's knee highs, two medallions/crosses grams uses for her nightly prayers, a bill still in the envelope (I wondered why I got a call about paying that one). In another stash behind the sofa I found: Richard's cell phone holder (thought he lost it at work), a small calculator, socks, and my heating pad!!!!!!! She had to work hard to get that heating pad where it was..... By the way, I do have another Papillon, Lizzy who is 7 months old and very impressionable. Oh dear...
My little Papillon Lucy "fer" is a thief
Lucy "fer" (she has earned the tag at the end of her name) has taken to a life of crime. Her downslide to the other side of the law happened gradually over the past few months. I'll share her most recent "inside job". An appliance repairman came to fix our stove. Lucy has perfected her talent of stealing. She first uses her charm and cuteness to disarm her victim. The repairman was so taken with her friendly nature that he couldn't resist giving her lots of attention (which she really used to her advantage). After he began working behind the stove which was partially pulled out from the wall, Lucy kept going back to visit him. I didn't realize after each visit she took something from his tool box. She never let on that she was "borrowing" things. After he left, she started bringing out (one at a time) her new treasures: a pair of work gloves, a phillips head screwdriver, a plastic sleeve/tool cover, a socket wrench adapter, and an order form!!! I called the appliance place, apologized and offered to bring the items in, but they said no big deal. They had a good laugh from it all. Lesson learned on my part: watch that little thief when people come to visit. On the more sobering side, she could have choked on a small part!!!
Any others have a thief in the family???
RE: Little dog has a problem with gulping/gasping air??????
Wow, thanks again. I tried the nose trick and the throat rubbing and both worked almost immediately. I've heard dogs do this from time to time, but this little pap seems to do it a lot more than "usual"--maybe 15 times a day. However, it does seem to happen mostly when she is running around or getting excited. Now I will just help her out with my magic trick. Judith
RE: Little dog has a problem with gulping/gasping air??????
Thanks all, for your comments. I do use a harness for all my dogs. I was concerned about the possibility of anesthesia being a problem for her. I will take her doctor for a pre-check before she has her surgery. I really appreciate your informative and prompt responses. Judith
Little dog has a problem with gulping/gasping air??????
My seven month old female Papillon does that gasping/snorting kind of sound quite a bit. My other dogs have made this noise, but only rarely. It seems to happen more when she is playng or eats too fast. Sounds like she has an partial obstruction in her throat??? Otherwise she is very healthy and active. I've been waiting for her to get big enough to have her spayed, but this problem worries me. I know Papillons sometimes have trouble with anesthesia. I will be taking her to the vet later this week to have her checked, but I would really appreciate any information or input you can give. Thanks, Judith
RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best
I've tasted most of the dry foods and they all taste bad/bland to me. :B Just kidding. Anyway, for some dogs any kind of animal fat is a problem. Poultry fat, etc. can contain a variety of "other" things. That's what's good about California Natural--no animal fat.
RE: Why Nutro Natural Choice dog food is the best
California Natural by Natura. It's the best for animals with allergies--pure and natural. Same manufacturer as Innova and Evo as others have mentioned. Go to their web site for tons of information. Here's some information:

RE: Dry, itchy skin on my lab
Feed your dog a food called California Natural Lamb and Brown Rice. If you do that and be extremely cautious about any treats he eats, I can pretty much guarantee your dog's skin and coat will dramatically improve. I started using this food about 15 years ago when my two previous dogs had dry, itchy skin problems. Nothing I tried had worked: vet visits, salves, shots, special shampoos, flea control, etc. I learned about this food from a groomer. She said the same thing to me: "I guarantee your dogs' skin will improve dramatically if you feed them this food and only this food." Never had another problem with bad skin after that--it took about three weeks to start noticing a difference. Since then all my dogs eat California Natural and none have had skin problems!!! I have told quite a few people about this food and those who have tried it for their dogs have had the same results. My most recent experience involved a 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier who belongs to a man we met at our boat dock. He was talking about how much trouble his dog was having with dry, itchy skin and resulting raw spots, and about all the treatments he and the vet had tried. Still the poor dog looked terrible and the problem was getting much, much worse. I gave the man a bag of California Natural Lamb and Brown Rice said feed this to the dog (and nothing else). One month later, the dog had no more skin problems. Her bald spots were growing back in and her coat was shiny and beautiful. She was such a happy girl. The man was amazed and very thankful. That was about four months ago. The dog continues to do well with no more skin problems. So, there you have it. Try this food: it really is great, expecially for dogs with skin issues.
RE: Anybody Change Finishes in a New Trailer Before?
I have changed to curtains and wallpaper borders on a couple of different trailers and have made new seat cushion covers for a dinette--not very difficult to do if you have time and patience. However, I wouldn't attempt to re-upholster a sofa. I'd have that done by a professional. Is there another sofa in that brand of trailer that you would like? When I bought a motorhome about 10 years ago, I had them change out the sofa with another one from another motorhome on the lot. It worked just fine. Good luck.
RE: Tropical Storm Fay
No kidding about the weather predictions being off. Here we sit in Brevard County right in the middle of the stalling storm. The golf course lake is over the 9th hole now and many, many roads are closed. Richard is at work at Cocoa Beach (about 12 miles from here). About two hours ago, he said the wind was really bad and water everywhere. The marina where we keep our boat is "full to the top". Hope the boats don't end up in the parking lot or on highway 520!!! The good news is that we are not hearing of any injuries or major damage. Hope the storm will move on out to sea and not come back. Judith
RE: Tropical Storm Fay
We're in Brevard County right in the path of the storm looking out our window at a lot of wind and rain. The golf course lake at the 18th hole looks like the ocean. Richard says it would be tough getting to #9 hole in two (maybe if the wind were blowing the opposite direction could be a hole in one. We have tornado warnings and sounds like the worst is yet to come... However, still not even close to past storms. I tried to take some photos, but can't keep the camera dry enough.
RE: Fritos Corn Chips
Well, I just sniffed my dogs' feet: two maltese and two papillons. They all smell like Fritos. I've thought this before, but never really realized that it's so common. Just as a funny side, my sweetie call parmesan cheese "stinky feet cheese" (he's referring to human feet).
RE: Does you Pooch watch TV
This is very interesting. I've always wondered how many other dogs watched TV. My 8 year old Maltese, Libby, has watched TV since she was a puppy. What's really interesting is that she loves so many different types of things on TV: cartoons, animal shows (all kinds of animals too), children on TV, certain action shows, and of course Animal Planet. She will watch without the sound, so I know it's not sounds of animals that cause her interest. The really weird thing is that she will growl and snarl at videos of "bad people" who are on news or documentary shows. One time we were watching a special on serial killers and she would go crazy every time they showed film clips of videos of them. It was just plain fascinating how she would only get upset at the bad people but now the other people like police, attorneys, and interviewers. She got so upset, we finally turned off the TV!!!
Don't know how a dog could know??? Has anyone else heaard of this??? Judith
RE: Easy $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ?
We would most definitely use an RV park that catered to dogs. Anywhere in Florida would be great, but closer to us in central east coast would be even better. The extent of "catering" wouldn't have to be extreme. A fenced in area for playing and a welcoming attitude would be wonderful. And a lake or beach area for dogs would be fabulous.
The continuing debate about picking up after your dogs is interesting to me. I think I can speak from some fairly extensive experience on this topic. For seven years from 1997-2004, I traveled back and forth across the United States from Washington State to Florida--each time taking a different route and staying in many different campgrounds. That's a total of 14 one way treks around and across this country. We spent anywhere from a month to three months doing these trips. I really can't even count the number of campgrounds/RV parks we visited, but it certainly was a lot. I can emphatically state that I rarely encountered a campground/RV park that was littered with dog poop. Only a very few (maybe three or four) were that way, and those were also dirty in general with lots of trash on the grounds and filthy restrooms.
Maybe it's more about the definition of what is unacceptable. In my opinion, if I took a walk around a campground/RV park and saw a few (maybe 3 or 4 total) different "poop" piles in the common areas, I would not be offended or upset. I would figure that out of the hundred or so campers using the park, one could expect a few rule-breakers.
We encountered more campgrounds that were just plain dirty and not maintained than were "covered" with dog poop. To me, it's just as offensive to have to look at someone's discarded cigarette butts or other personal trash....
Maybe I'll start a thread about what is the definition of an adequately maintained campground.
RE: Puppy very aggressive toward older dog. Help/Suggestions
Here's my input--which is a modified approach to what has already been posted (it's a long post):
To a degree, I let dogs work out their pecking order in the pack. I always make sure I am there when I allow this so I can intervene immediately if I decide they are getting too aggressive. I think most dog families has some sort of pecking order and can be OK as long as the HUMAN is always the boss and all dogs know that absolutely. I don't allow my dogs to act aggressive toward me when it comes to real growling and/or snapping or snarling. I do the same thing the other posters do: grab the skin on the back of their neck and pin them to the floor until I feel they get the message about who is the "big boss of everything".
Here's some background of my dogs: I have four dogs of my own--all female, two Maltese ages 8 years (11 pounds big girl) and 7 years (8 pounds); and two Papillons 1 year and 6 months--had the newest little girl about two months. Had to go through all the stuff with bringing home the 1 year old Pap and then again bringing home the new Pap. It all went just fine and they all get along great. The oldest girl Maltese is the boss of the dogs as much as I allow it and it works great. Once in a while she will get tired of a puppy and do the mama dog growl and act like she's pinning down the younger ones. She's never hurt them and now she's content with just a rare snarl if she is just fed up with too much playing. She definitely knows that I am the big boss and never, never, challenges me.
Now, maybe you will think I'm nuts to do this but I am dog sitting for my neighbors. They have a bichon mix year old boy dog. He is very strong, a bit too exuberant and weighs about 15 pounds. They just rescued a terrier mix female two weeks ago who is between 2-3 years old. She is smaller at about 8 pounds. I have brought these dogs over to my house every day and have managed to teach all six dogs how to get along. I had to be tough with the bichon mix male because he is too rough for the little ones. The new little terrier mix thinks she is bigger and tougher than she is, so I had to teach her that she is safe now and doesn't need to defend herself--I think she must of come from a place where she was treated roughly by other dogs.
ANYWAY, all six have worked things out with my close supervision. The little terrier sleeps with us every night because I think she needs that comfort. So every night Richard and I go to bed with two maltese, two papillons and the little terrier. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. They all pick their spots and sleep through the night! It's really amazing. The bichon boy has always slept in a crate so that's no problem at all either. So today, I will continue my "job" as dog sitter/trainer/mamma. Also I have taught all of them to get along with the sixteen month old grandson I babysit for three days a week. OK, so I am crazy, but I love animals and have always had good luck with mixing all sizes, genders, and ages.
So, I believe that YOU CAN train the two dogs yourself with a lot of attention for a few days. In my opinion, it's better to do this yourself than hire someone to train your dogs. You do have to be there a lot for this to work...
